Hi, I’m Preeti Saigal, a Happiness & Growth Coach with 20+ years of experience across corporate and entrepreneurial life. I help people going through big life or work changes find clarity, confidence, and balance β with a mix of practical tools and real emotional support. I’ve worked with several women navigating exactly this stage of life, and I wanted to write about what I see them go through, and how coaching can help.
Are you a woman over 40 in India, feeling like your life is changing fast? Your kids need you less. Your energy dips by afternoon. Your career feels stuck β or like it’s finally taking off. And underneath it all, one question keeps coming up: what do I want now?
This is where a life coach for women over 40 can help. Whether you live in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, or a small town, this chapter looks a little different for everyone. But the feelings are often the same. Let’s talk about what’s really going on β and how coaching, online or in person, can help.
Getting Ready for the Empty Nest
For years, your day ran on someone else’s schedule. School runs. Homework. Birthday parties. As your children grow into teens and pull away, you may feel two things at once: sadness, and free time you don’t know what to do with.
The real question isn’t “what will I do with my time?” It’s “who am I, when I’m not needed the same way?” Preparing for the empty nest before it happens makes this transition much easier.
Perimenopause: The Change Nobody Warned You About
Hot flashes. Broken sleep. Mood changes. Brain fog. For some women, perimenopause starts making itself felt during this stage of life β sometimes before they were expecting it.
The physical changes are real, and medical concerns deserve proper medical attention. But there’s another side to it too. Your energy may change. Your patience may change. You may find that the pace you kept up easily at 30 doesn’t work the same way anymore.
And then comes the bigger question: how do you manage work, family, responsibilities, and yourself β without feeling guilty for needing something different?
Mental Wellbeing Can’t Wait Anymore
For most of your life, your own mental health may have come last β after your kids, your parents, your job.
In this decade, many women begin to realise that their own wellbeing can no longer stay at the bottom of the list.
Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, foggy, or simply “not like yourself” can show up more strongly in this phase. These feelings deserve real support, not a quick “you’ll be fine.”
Career After 40: Step Up or Step Back?
There’s no single right path here. Some women step into leadership roles they’ve worked years for, finally ready to claim their seat at the table. Others choose to step back β to care for ageing parents, support teenagers, or protect their own health.
Neither choice is better than the other. What matters is that you choose it β on purpose, not by default.
Following a New Calling
Some women feel a different pull after 40: the urge to start something completely new. A business. A creative project. A second career built around what actually excites them β not just what was practical at 25.
Following that calling takes courage. It also helps to have someone guide you from “I have a feeling” to “I have a plan.”
Breaking Free From Old Routines
Maybe your job doesn’t fit anymore. Maybe your home routine feels stuck on repeat. Many women reach their 40s wanting change, even when change feels scary.
Old habits of putting everyone else first can quietly keep you stuck. Noticing this is step one. Actually breaking free is where real support makes the difference.
When Everything Changes at Once
Habits shift. Your body changes shape. Even your relationships β with your partner, your friends, your parents, your kids β shift as everyone around you changes too.
It’s a lot to handle at the same time. That’s normal. This life stage deserves real attention, not just a shrug and “it’s just ageing.”
And yet, there can be something freeing about this stage too. You know yourself better. You may care less about pleasing everyone. You have years of experience behind you and probably a clearer sense of what matters and what doesn’t.
The challenge is not always finding confidence. Sometimes it’s learning how to use that confidence well.
Too Much Advice, Not Enough Clarity
Open Instagram or YouTube today, and you’ll find endless advice on hormones, fitness, mindset, and “how to win your 40s.” Some of it helps. A lot of it is confusing, contradictory, or just not built for your life.
What most women need isn’t more information. It’s a filter β and a plan made for them.
Confidence Doesn’t Always Come Naturally (Even When You’ve Earned It)
Here’s something people rarely say out loud: with age comes real confidence and a clearer sense of what you will and won’t accept. But knowing your worth and actually using your voice β with a boss, a spouse, a parent, a grown child β are two different skills.
Many capable, accomplished women still soften their voice, over-explain, or shrink in moments that call for clarity and strength.
How a Life Coach for Women Over 40 Can Help
A good life coach doesn’t hand you a generic checklist.
In my coaching work, I use structured frameworks and reflective tools to help clients move from “something needs to change” to a clearer sense of what they want, what’s getting in the way, and what they can realistically do next. My approach looks at the current situation, desired outcome, blocks and practical next steps rather than treating everything as one big problem.
Working online or in person, a coach can help you:
- Get real clarity on what this next chapter should look like for you
- Navigate the emotional and practical changes around empty nest, changing energy, and midlife transitions
- Make career decisions on purpose, not by default
- Build the confidence to set boundaries and speak up
- Cut through social media noise with a routine that’s actually sustainable
- Handle changing relationships with more ease
- Turn a new calling into a real next step
Whether you’re in Delhi or anywhere else in India, this chapter doesn’t have to just happen to you. With the right support, you can shape it more consciously.
If any of this feels familiar, you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’d love to hear what you’re navigating and explore how coaching β online or in person β could support you.
